Strategy Planner - How to?

I am trying to model and use the strategy planner. I have defined Drivers -> Business Goals -> Business Objectives using the Strategy Motivation Editor. I have put Group Actors into the BO Owners slot for the Business Objectives. The Strategy Goals Model is working and showing those relationships.

I have also used the Business Objectives for Business Capability slot on the L2 Business Capabilities to connect Bus. Capability with Bus. Objectives per the notes on the university page for the strategy planner. Only after also tagging the business objectives using the 'SMART Objective' taxonomy type (per the setup video) do I start to see the Strategic Impact fill in - is this a hold over from the old way of modeling goals and objectives?

I was expecting that when I select the business capability that it would then 'highlight' the Strategy Goals and Objectives that are connected, but that doesn't happen. Additionally, the Strategy Goals do not list any objectives when you click on the 'i'. Is that expected behavior?

I explored the demo environment and noticed that it shows both the Goals and Objectives at the top. I'm only seeing my Goals listed and no Objectives. When I click the 'i' for the business capability it does show the associated objectives.

We do not have any value streams defined at this time.

Thanks for the help on getting this to work!

Hi Paul,

Sorry I missed this. I think you mean the strategy planner view. The video is here https://enterprise-architecture.org/uni ... y-planner/ but there is no meta model diagram, I'll ask one of the team to document it for you

Regards

Hi Paul,

Meta model attached
graph-12.png
There is an SVG version zipped up here (SVG is blocked) and is easier to view/zoom into. I've also uploaded the tubemaps generator that creates these images - you can zoom in/out, drag, move the nodes and labels around to see relationships. There are a few other maps which I've left in there as they may help with other views/config. (again the file is zipped as it blocks HTML too).

The tubemaps are going to move into the tool, with more views than are here - we're doing some work on that at the moment alongside a playbook update.

Any questions then let me know, sorry for the delay.

John

Strategy Planner Issue Resolution
Mapping to your document rows:
1.4 load your capabilities
2.1 – 2.4 just map your processes to the business capabilities, use Launchpad to do this
4.6 Map you applications to the processes via physical processes (again use launchpad)
3.1 Create some value streams and map value stages to them.
3.2 the value stages map to Customer Journeys. Emotions on Value Stages use the relationship class VALUE_STAGE_TO_EMOTION_RELATION
4.1 create these
4.2 map these to the Customer Journey’s created ion 4.1. You can add data using these slots cjp_emotions, cjp_experience_rating, cjp_supporting_phys_processes, cjp_value_stages. These are mapped to the Physical Processes, which gives the link to the Logical Processes to Business Capability
4.3 isn’t used in this view. Strategy "I" Icon Not Displaying the root cause is likely Business_Objectives are not linked to Business_Capabilities
Solution:
1. Open Business_Objective instances in Essential Modeller
2. Find the slot: supporting_business_capabilities
3. Select the Business_Capability instance(s) that this objective supports
4.4. isn’t used in this view, the issue is related to not mapping the business objectives to the capability.
4.5 isn’t used in this view. The issue "Differentiator" Flag Not Showing is because the Business Capabilities are not classified as differentiators using the taxonomy system
Solution:
Step 1: Create the Taxonomy Structure (if it doesn't already exist)
1. Create a Taxonomy instance
2. Set name: "Business Differentiation Level"
3. Map the element_classified_by slot on the relevant Business Capabilities to this taxonomy
4.6 Tech health Root Cause is likely applications don't have performance measures linked
Solution:
1. Open Composite_Application_Provider instances
2. Find the slot: performance_measures
3. Create or link a Technology_Performance_Measure instance
4. On the Technology_Performance_Measure, find slot: pm_performance_value
5. Link to a Service_Quality_Value instance with a numeric score
4.7 Application Capability is not used. Your issue is Customer Service is a Service Quality on the customer journey phase
5.3/6.2 you won’t see these until you map the Customer Experience Rating. and Customer Emotion enumerations to your customer journey phases

Hi Sanjay,

That's quite a long list so will take a while to go through. You are missing data but it is tricky to work out what you are missing without seeing how you have captured the data, so we'll try our best.

Re the Editors, they are in Cloud/Docker only, hence why you don;t see them.
