Looking for advice on the best way capture contract renewals.

Our source for renewals is a jira board where they track an 'epic' representing a 'contract'. That epic has the start/end date, value and other information about the 'current' agreement. They create a child 'task' when renewal activity occurs and when it is completed they update the parent record.

Using the Supplier and Contracts editor I can create a contract and it works great for the initial agreement. I understand that contract components are used to split parts of the contract into the individual things on the contract, like technology vs. services.

Recommendations on how to handle the 'renewal'. Should I extend the dates of the contract and add new components that cover the renewal timeframe? Should I create a new contract for each renewal?

Any thoughts on how to approach this are appreciated.
